February 12 2005 Club Meeting
Jeff Whitney and his Brewster Buffalo
Details:
Brewster Buffalo, in Finnish markings.
Foam wing and built-up fuselage, from plans.
30" wingspan, AUW, 21.5 ounces.
Fitted with Speed 400 motor, Castle Creations 20 amp ESC,
(2) Hitec HS55 servos, GWS 5 channel receiver, 8-cell NiMh battery pack.
The US Version was designated F2A-1, the export version (model shown here) was designated model 239. The model 239 had one of the highest victory ratios of WWII - something on the order of 70-1.
This model, (not quite finished - I have to put the side numbers on yet and one more decal) is of the original full scale BW-372 - which was recovered from a lake in Karelia (Russian province) about 5 or 6 years ago, and was delivered to Pensacola Naval Air Museum late in 2004. It is the only known original surviving Buffalo of any model (the Finnish-built copy called 'Humu' doesn't count)
